Honoring Legacy and Leadership: A. Jack Nussbaum and Romeo Raabe

The story of A. Jack Nussbaum is one of grit, opportunity, and lasting impact. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he began working at age 12 and immigrated to the United States at 15. Within just a few years, earning $4 a week in a factory, he saved enough to bring his parents to America, setting the tone for a life defined by discipline and determination.

After serving in World War I, Nussbaum built a remarkable career with Massachusetts Mutual in Milwaukee. A perennial top producer, he was a longtime Million Dollar Round Table member, a consistent National Quality Award recipient, and ranked among his company’s top 100 producers for more than 30 years. His leadership extended far beyond production, serving as president at the local, state, and national levels of NALU, where he became known as an “idea man” and influential voice in the profession. Just as memorable were his warmth, storytelling, and deep commitment to giving back to the industry and country that shaped his life.

That same spirit of service and leadership continues today in professionals like Romeo Raabe. A NAIFA member since 1998, Romeo has been a tireless advocate for the profession, regularly participating in Day on the Hill events and building strong relationships with policymakers at both the state and national levels.

Over a nearly 40-year career, Romeo has become a recognized authority in long-term care planning, Medicaid, and asset protection strategies. He played a key role in developing the widely adopted 8-hour Long-Term Care Partnership curriculum, helping educate thousands of advisors. A dedicated mentor and educator, he has taught industry designation courses, led CE programs, and continues to guide professionals across Wisconsin and beyond.

His contributions extend well beyond the profession. Through volunteer work with hospice organizations, memory care initiatives, and local resource centers, Romeo has made a meaningful difference in the lives of families navigating some of life’s most challenging moments.

Together, these two stories reflect the enduring values of NAIFA: professional excellence, servant leadership, and a commitment to making a difference both within the industry and in the communities we serve.

Our sincerest congratulations to the 2026 A. Jack Nussbaum Distinguished Service Award Recipient:
