SGR Election Update
Trump wins Wisconsin; Trump wins Presidency
Several polls over the weekend showed a neck-and-neck race for the presidency in Wisconsin, and both candidates spent a lot of time campaigning in the state over the past few weeks. With 99% of the vote in, Trump has a 29,000-vote lead over Harris in Wisconsin. With a sweeping set of victories across the battleground states, including Wisconsin, Trump declared victory in the presidential election early Wednesday morning.
Tammy Baldwin Wins 3rd Term in US Senate
Dem U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin declared victory early Wednesday morning. With 99% of the vote in, Baldwin has a 29,000-vote lead over GOP businessman Eric Hovde. Going into election night, Baldwin held a narrow lead, making it a close race that had been tightening over the past several weeks. Baldwin will now serve her third 6-year term in the U.S. Senate after being first elected in 2012.
Legislative Races
On the ballot this year for state legislative races were all 99 state Assembly districts and the even-numbered state Senate districts.
Assembly
Assembly Republicans went into election night with a strong majority, holding 64 seats compared to Assembly Democrats at 34 (with one vacancy). Assembly Republicans were expected to return with a majority, but the question was how strong of a majority. Tighter margins will lead to a new dynamic in the Assembly and potentially more opportunities for bipartisan compromise on larger policy issues, including the budget.
Assembly Republicans maintained the majority and now stand at 54 seats.
